Ahoy mateys! This week 8 Pines hosted a barrel race on the infamous “Rum Runner” course. The race is part of a series called “Mule’s Challenge,” unique because while practice time is almost unlimited, each pony is allowed to take only five runs during the actual race.
The Rum Runner course is a 13-barrel route with a 360-degree lynchpin. The course snakes through palm trees, pirate skeletons and cannons. “I love this course!” exclaimed Miss Winnie (winnie.sweetwater) after running it, notwithstanding faulting on nearly ever barrel. Scratching her head, she added, “I just don’t understand why Mule limited this to only five runs.”

The Mule’s Challenge series, underway now at 8 Pines, is the latest in a long string of efforts by Mule to frustrate and annoy ponies. “I hope you all hate it!” Mule proudly declared. Mule (indy.smartass) is careful to point out that she is a mule, not a pony. It is not clear whether being intoxicated while running the course leads to faster results, but Mule is certainly testing the theory.
The next race in the series will start at 2:00 am on Wednesday, February 15 and run for 24 hours. The course will be the “SOS Steeple” at 8 Pines.
